The media we consume is not created in a vacuum. Writing doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Media is a reflection of the world we live in. Good speculative fiction in particular has to be grounded in some level of…

It may seem like a good idea and your heart might really be in it, but every person to ever out somebody has honestly believed it has been for the greater good.
But it’s not. It never is. And you think that’s what you’re doing— something good— but it’s loaded with negative repercussions and it’s…
YES. This. This. This. There is thing that people don’t understand, this thing where there is this perception that if you just come out, if you’re just out, then that’s it. Credits. Happy ending. Congratulations you. Well done. This is a lie. This is not what life is like. Even if you are 100 percent ready to come out, coming out is not a one time deal. It is a thing you do over and over again for the rest of your life. It needs to be your choice every time. I feel like- people think that coming out is like… climbing a ladder and turning out a light and it might be steep ladder but once you’re up it and the light is on, then it’s on and that’s it and yay! And if you “help” someone climb that ladder- or push them to the top as the case might be here, then you have done this great favor. No. Actually you have to climb that ladder over and over again and sometimes you have no idea how sturdy the ground the ladder is on is, it might be dangerous, but if you don’t climb it you’re ‘hiding.’ Sometimes you have to climb the ladder and turn on your light over and over again for the same people, in the same place, because no matter what they still think that light that came on might because the sun is really bright today. (I just love to beat an analogy to death. Sorry.) It is an on going thing, and you cannot make that choice for people. You cannot decide for anyone, ever, that now is the time for them to climb any one of those ladders.
No. It is hard, and the only thing that makes it less hard is knowing the ground is safe, knowing it’s okay. Even then it can still be hard and- it is never. ever. helpful to try and out someone. To push them up their ladder. Never.
New Layout! Because I realized you couldn’t see my tags in my old one and that made me very, very sad. This is better. Yes.
Louis: Are you surprised that I’m giving a serious answer, Liam?
